The event brought 17 schools together and one could feel the excitement build amongst the future budding scientists. Scientia 2022, was conducted under the leadership of the Science Department at the Senior School, and had a total of 64 exhibits in three different categories – Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Scientia 2022 was inaugurated by Prof. V J Antony Vellanikaran, former Vice Principal of the Cochin College. In his opening address, Prof. Antony spoke about how knowledge and positive thinking of man has made the present time an era of Science. He urged students to use Science for the betterment of the planet and the lives of every living creature on it. The Principal of The Choice School, Mr. Jacob P Ajith Mathews, spoke about the role of science exhibitions in enhancing the scientific temperament of the children.

An eminent panel of academicians; Dr. Joseph John, Head of the department of Physics, Aquinas College, Prof. Paul Ansel V, Vice Principal, Albertian Institute of Science and Technology, Ms Rakhy Prince, Principal at Sree Narayana Vidhyapeetham Public School, and Mr Vinumon K Mathew, Principal, Sanskara School; judged the various exhibits put up by the participants.

The best performance awards, with a winner’s trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5000/- in Biology (BIOSIS), Chemistry (ALCHEMY), Physics (PHYSICS) were awarded to Nava Nirman Public School, Vazhakkala, Vidyodhaya School, Thevakkal and Bhavan’s Vidhya Mandir, Eroor respectively. Cash prize, trophies and certificates were also awarded to first, second and third prize winners from all the three categories. The exhibition concluded with a colourful cultural treat by students of The Choice School.

The event was sponsored by 15 top companies in Kochi and saw an array of about 52 stalls selling a variety of wares ranging from Christmas decorations to clothes to food. The students were allowed to take charge under the watchful eye of their teachers, and learned important skills like leadership, negotiation, planning and marketing.

The highlight of the evening was the cultural show put up by the senior students of the school. Students were able to showcase their creativity and talent through music, dance, drama and fashion, learning the importance of disciplined practice and teamwork.

 It was a celebration of spirited youthful exuberance. Inaugurating the creative carnival, Ms. Archana spoke about the importance of preserving a balance between the scholastic and co-scholastic potentials in students.  

Lighting the traditional lamp along with Mr Jacob P Ajith Mathews, Principal, Ms Annie Anthony, Vice Principal, Head Boy, Head Girl and student representatives of the participating teams, the chief guest was all praise for the creative environment The Choice School provides for an even-handed development of its students.

 A surprise DJ jamming session by the young cine star, Srinath Basi was another star attraction of the day.

 Chinmaya School, Vaduthala emerged the overall champion, bagging the Cheering Trophy as well, in the event which had the participation of more than 300 students from different CBSE schools across Kochi. Delta Study school was awarded with the runners-up trophy.

The show ended with a promise to meet again next year.

While the literary Fest aimed at promoting reading, creativity and intellectual development, the Cosplay Fair, Mimesis offered something new and exciting for the children.  It gave them an opportunity to choose a favourite character of theirs from the world of Literature and design the costumes, the hairstyling and other props pertaining to the character all by themselves. So, there we had a wonderful opportunity for the children to straddle the worlds of both literature and creativity and come up with something of their own.

September 27 dawned as a bright day with electric energy in the air. If you listened hard enough, you could hear the low thrum of excitement dancing around the entire school campus. The whole campus was filled with characters who had walked out of their books and decided to make their presence felt on the Choice School campus.

Poetry recitation, book talks and character displays appeared on the stage soon after the formal inauguration of the Fest by the dignitaries.

Characters from almost every genre you could think of put up short shows- Attack on Titan’s Eren Jaeger Chen, Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, Maverick from Top Gun, Cruella from Disney’s Cruella etc could be seen in the Main Block.

At the Preparatory we had Captain Hook rubbing shoulders with Little Red Riding Hood! Wonder where the wolf had disappeared to?!And then, how could we miss Mr.Velociraptor from Jurassic Park? Iron Man had decided to reinvent himself while Nicky the mouse from Mouseford Academy decided she was not afraid of anyone. And Ms Nancy Drew had walked straight out of a mystery she was solving to attend this Fest!

The little ones of Grades 1 and 2 did not let us down as far as their enthusiastic participation was concerned.

A book display, as part of the Book Fest, in both the Primary section as well as the Middle and Senior sections was held in the afternoon, to help analyse the students’ reading habits. This was in association with the Kochi International Book Fest Silver Jubilee Celebrations. The book stands held pieces of literature which were a perfect mix of the modern contemporary writings and the classics, from Year One all the way to Year Twelve.

It was an absolute treat of a day!

The Choice School staff and students came together as one and celebrated this beautiful festival at school, with all pomp and festivity associated with this festival.

Onam celebration at Kinderland, on September 2, was filled with fun and fervour as children dressed themselves in the Onam attire. We had a young, handsome Mahabali spreading the message of happiness and prosperity and onam songs sung by the children.Thiruvathira, pulikali, vallamkali and Koithio dances, were also incorporated into the programme in the form of a skit. Parents were invited to enjoy the performance by their little ones. Payasam and chips were distributed to the entire Kinderland fraternity.

Onam celebration in Grades 1 and 2

The students of Grades 1 and 2 put up a beautiful play called ‘Kummatium  kuttiool’ on September 1.Written and directed by Mr. Pradeep ,this play showcased the essence and the true spirit of the Onam festival with depictions of the  Pulikalli dance and visit of Mahabali to Kerala.

The members of the carnatic music band, Swaralaya from Grades 1 and 2 sang a few Onappattu celebrating the spirit of Onam, harking back to an egalitarian past when the land was ruled by a just ruler, King Mahabali.  We had parent participation in the form of Akrish’s(grade 2) grandmother who spoke to the students about the various flowers used in a pookalam and its significance.

The Chief guest for this program was the renowned South Indian playback singer Madhu Balakrishnan and his wife Mrs. Vidhutha who herself is a lyricist .Mr P.Balachandran,Director,Choice Group, felicitated him. The programme was also attended by our principal, Mr. Ajith Jacob, Educational administrator,Mrs. Vimala Jacob and Vice principal of Foundation stage,Ms.Reeba John

ONAM CELEBRATIONS @ THE CHOICE PREPARATORY

Choice Preparatory celebrated Onam 2022 with great enthusiasm and style on Friday, September 2, 2022. The Guest of Honour for the day was Mr. Sijoy Varghese, Cine Artist, Producer. The dignitaries who attended the program included Mr. P. Balachandran, Director, Choice group, Mr. Ajit Jacob, Principal, Choice School, Tripunithura, along with the section VP Ms. Reena Rajesh. The highlight of the program was “Onappulariyil”, a short Malayalam skit which spoke about the story behind Onam, the various traditions and cultural art forms associated with Onam.

The students of IBPYP were also a part of the program and presented an energetic vanchippaattu. 

Ms. Likhita, who had been with Choice school previously, visited us ,to interact with her dear students that day, which was an additional factor of surprise.

Thiruvathira dance performed by the mothers of Preparatory students, added rhythm and colour to the morning.

The students of Choice Swaralaya, mentored by Satish Nair, were superb in their melodious Onam songs.

The program was scripted and programmed by the Malayalam department.

The delicious palada payasam and chips served from school and the superb pookalam at the foyer was just the icing on the layered cake of celebrations at the Preparatory

 ONAM CELEBRATIONS AT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Students of Grade 6 presented a skit – Chengathapookalam, on Sep -1. The skit brought together music, dance and folk-art forms associated with Onam, interwoven with a story of reviving friendships and celebration of togetherness. 

Students of Grade 7 celebrated Onam by put together a skit – Kunjonam, on Sep -1 based on Onam theme. The skit was a total theatre presentation using music, dance and folk-art forms associated with Onam, to bring to its audience a story that conveyed the need for environment conservation and to underline the fact that man doesn’t own nature; WE are a part of it. 

ONAM CELEBRATIONS-SENIOR SCHOOL

September 2 began with every student in school arriving, dressed in traditional Onam attire, full of anticipation and excitement for the day’s events. There were several events planned for the day.

The programme began with a plethora of traditional dance performances, and several Onam songs sung by our talented singers. There were many house competitions such as the traditional tug of war fought fiercely between two groups of senior school children, filling the air with electrifying energy. Then, it was time for Uriyadi, with blindfolded representatives from the 4 Houses trying to catch a swinging earthen pot. Two people who held long ropes tied to the pot controlled the movements of the pot swinging it towards and away from the player. But the players succeeded in catching the pot, breaking it open and declaring their victory.

The events concluded, with Ajith Sir addressing the students and teachers and wishing them a happy Onam.

In her inaugural address, Ms Kartha spoke about the qualities that make a perfect person and motivated students to leap ahead with their lives with positivity. Ms Rajalekshmi G. G., Principal, Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidhya Madya Mandir, Panagad and Secretary, Kochi Sahodaya, welcomed the elite assemblage. Mr. Aravind Lekshman, Principal, Kasthoorba Senior Secondary School, Manjummel and President, Kochi Sahodaya, delivered the presidential address. Mr Jacob P Ajith Mathews, Principal, The Choice School and vice President, Kochi Sahadaya felicitated the gathering.

The award ceremony was the most awaited segment of the day, recognizing the  brilliant stars for the academic year 2021-‘22. Student prodigies from schools across the district along with their respective principals and teachers were felicitated with awards. The program concluded with a vote of gratitude by Ms Susan Ipe, Principal, Hagia Sofia Public School, and Treasurer, Kochi Sahodaya.

We had 22 schools participating, in this unique theatre festival cum contest, with Retro Futurism being the theme of the Festival.

There were 11 events lined up spanning a wide range of theatrical presentations ranging from monologues inspired from paintings of Johannes Vermeer to tableaus based on characters from Ravi Verma and Amrita Shergill’s paintings to a dance drama presentation based on characters from Raja Ravi Verma’s paintings to a recreation of classic paintings with a modern twist.

The Theatre Festival saw participation of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

The winners of the event were Bhavans Newsprint Vidyalaya, Velloor, who totted up the maximum number of points as compared to all other participating schools.
